Clean books. Zero spreadsheet chaos.
Midnight Ledger is VAT-ready bookkeeping software for small businesses in the UAE. It keeps your invoices, expenses, VAT return, corporate tax and WPS payroll tidy, built around how the FTA actually wants your books, so filing season is a non-event instead of a panic.
Invoice · Reconcile · File · Sleep

Everything your books need, nothing they don't
Real double-entry accounting underneath, a calm interface on top. Built by a UAE business owner who got tired of tools made for somewhere else.
Quotes that become invoices
Send a quotation your customer accepts online. When they say yes it turns into a draft invoice with the same lines, ready to issue.
Invoicing that holds up
VAT-ready invoices with gapless sequential numbering, clean PDFs, and statuses that track themselves from draft to paid.
Receipts read by AI
Snap a receipt, or forward a supplier invoice by email, and the amounts, supplier, and VAT are extracted and filed to the right account. You just review and confirm.
VAT returns that fill themselves
Every invoice and expense lands in the right return box as you go. When the period closes, your VAT return is already assembled.
Bank reconciliation
Import statements from any bank as CSV. Transactions match to invoices and expenses automatically, and foreign-currency differences are handled too.
Payroll, the UAE way
Monthly runs with WPS salary files, end-of-service gratuity accrual, and pension contributions, plus payslip PDFs for your team.
Your data, open
Every report exports as CSV, and a REST API plus an MCP connector let Claude, ChatGPT, or your own tools read the books. No lock-in, ever.
Multiple companies, one login
Run several companies side by side and switch in a click. Invite your accountant or partner with full or view-only access.
Deadlines on a calendar
VAT periods, filing dates, and payroll obligations laid out on a calendar, so nothing official ever sneaks up on you.
A built-in UAE guide
Plain-English answers to the cryptic parts. Step-by-step guides, a searchable reference with official sources, and help on every confusing field.
Bring your old books with you
Import your accounts, contacts, price list and closing trial balance. Exports from Zoho Books, QuickBooks and Xero upload as they come, and you see what will happen before anything is written.
Audit-ready by default
Two-factor sign-in, gapless numbering, filed periods that lock, and an activity log behind every change in the books.
Built for the UAE, not adapted to it
Most bookkeeping tools were built for another country and taught about the UAE later. Midnight Ledger started here, so the FTA's forms and rules are the foundation, not a plugin.
The official VAT return, box for box
Your return mirrors the FTA form exactly: standard sales split by emirate, adjustments where the form has them. What you review is what you file.
Audit-ready by default
Gapless invoice numbers, a real journal behind every document, and an FTA Audit File export for the day someone official asks.
Mainland, free zone, or VAT group
Registered or not, free zone or mainland, own TRN or group TRN. The books, invoices, and returns adapt to your setup.
Ready for what comes next
Corporate tax views built in, and e-invoicing already in the data model. The UAE mandate rolls out next year, and Midnight Ledger will be ready before it takes effect.
Bookkeeping that does the bookkeeping
Set up in minutes
Answer a few questions about your company and VAT registration. Your chart of accounts, tax rates, and filing periods are ready before the coffee is.
Run your business
Send invoices, snap receipts, import your bank statement. The double-entry bookkeeping happens quietly underneath, with no debits and credits to learn.
File without the scramble
When a VAT period closes, the return is already assembled and every number traces back to a document. Review, file, done.
Ask your books a question
Add Midnight Ledger as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT and ask in plain English: who is late paying, what VAT is due this quarter, how the year is tracking. The assistant reads your real figures and answers with them.
It can draft an invoice or a supplier bill for you too. It cannot issue, post, pay, or delete anything. Every draft waits for you in the app, so an assistant can never rewrite your books.
- Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, and any MCP client
- Sign in once, pick the company, choose read-only or drafts
- A REST API with the same limits for scripts and spreadsheets
Two invoices are overdue as of today, AED 62,568.65 in total:
| Customer | Invoice | AED | Overdue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon's Hoard Holdings | INV-00028 | 33,600.00 | 6 days |
| Aladdin Trading LLC | INV-00031 | 28,968.65 | 12 days |
Both are within 30 days. Want me to draft a reminder for Dragon's Hoard Holdings, or shall I check the VAT due for this quarter as well?
Illustration on demo data. Answers come from the aged receivables report over the connector.

Questions, answered
Do I need to understand accounting?+
No. You work with things you recognize, like invoices, receipts, and bank statements, while Midnight Ledger keeps proper double-entry books underneath. If you do speak accountant, the full journal and trial balance are right there.
What if I'm not VAT registered?+
Then the VAT machinery stays out of your way entirely: no VAT fields on invoices, no return periods, no noise. The dashboard quietly tracks your income against the AED 375,000 registration threshold, so you'll know well before registering becomes mandatory. When you do register, flip the setting and everything appears.
Which banks does it work with?+
Any bank that lets you download statements as CSV, which is effectively all of them. The importer adapts to different column layouts, and direct bank feeds are on the roadmap.
How much does it cost?+
Every new company starts with 14 days of Pro and no credit card. After that the free plan carries on indefinitely: 100 invoices and up to AED 100,000 of revenue a year for one user, with the VAT return, payroll, reports and exports all included. Pro is AED 99 a month or AED 990 a year per company, and adds unlimited invoicing, team and accountant seats, recurring invoices and card payments on your invoices.
Can my accountant use it too?+
Yes. Invite them to your company with their own login, either full access or a view-only seat. Everything they need for filings and reviews is in one place, and anything else exports to CSV. Team and accountant seats are part of Pro; on the free plan you can still hand them a CSV or the FTA Audit File. If your accountant runs a practice, their firm plan can cover your company instead.
What about the UAE e-invoicing mandate?+
E-invoicing becomes mandatory on 1 January 2027 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more, and on 1 July 2027 for everyone else. Midnight Ledger will connect to an Accredited Service Provider before the small business deadline. Your invoices already carry the data the programme requires, so when your turn comes it will be a setting, not a migration.
Is there a mobile app?+
Not a native one on the App Store or Play Store. Midnight Ledger is a web app that installs to your phone home screen: on Android your browser offers to install it, and on iPhone you use Share then Add to Home Screen. It then opens like an app, with shortcuts straight to a new expense, invoice or quote, and the receipt panel goes to the camera so you can photograph a bill at the till. It needs a connection, because your books live on the server.
Can I move my books over from Zoho Books, QuickBooks or Xero?+
Yes. Export your chart of accounts, contacts, price list and closing trial balance from the old system and upload them as they come: Midnight Ledger recognises the column names those products print, and shows you line by line what each file will do before anything is written. Most businesses switch at the start of a VAT period and run both for one period.
Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to my books?+
Yes. Midnight Ledger has a built-in MCP connector. Add it in Claude or ChatGPT, sign in, pick the company, and the assistant can read your invoices, expenses, VAT return, and reports, and draft documents for you to approve. It can never issue, post, pay, or delete anything. There is a REST API with the same rules for your own scripts.
What happens to my data if I leave?+
You take it with you. Every report and record exports to plain CSV files at any time: general ledger, invoices, expenses, the lot. No questions asked.
The UAE rules, explained without the jargon
VAT, corporate tax, e-invoicing and free zones, checked against FTA and Ministry of Finance sources and dated. Useful whether or not you use Midnight Ledger.
Your books, sorted by midnight.
Start free and spend filing season like every other season: running your business, not reconstructing it.
